BOOKING GUIDELINES
From Teresa Hernandez

This page answers some common questions for those interested in performing at the Gypsy Lounge.

Q: What is the Gypsy Lounge like?
The Gypsy Lounge is a relaxed, smoke and alcohol-free cozy space that fits forty-two seated or sixty to seventy standing. Our atmosphere is casual and friendly. During a show, out of great respect for the music and the performer, we ask for the audience's undivided attention. It's this combination of informality and deep appreciation for the music that makes the Gypsy Lounge unique and which attracts performers and audiences.

Q: What type of performers do you look for?
I prefer people who have experience playing for audiences either at festivals, galleries, coffee houses, or other music venues either alone or as part of a larger show.

I look for people who are comfortable playing small rooms and comfortable having people's full and undivided attention. Unless you are playing in conjunction with one of our art openings, you will be performing in an alcohol-free environment and in front of an audience who is here specifically to hear and see you.

Q: What type of music do you look for?
As a worldly gallery, my goal is to introduce our audience to music from all genres and cultures. I also want to support the Charlotte music scene so don't think that you have to play "international" music to play here. Our past shows have included Brazilian, African, Indian, Middle-eastern and Spanish rock music. Personally, I enjoy Americana, American folk rock, and Indie music a lot and look forward to having more of that here. I'd also love to have blues, cajun, zydeco, country, and Christian music.

I prefer original music as opposed to cover songs.

Q: How do I send you samples of my music?
I want this process to be easy for both of us. I prefer to listen to samples online so send me a link to your website or myspace (we are myspace.com/puravidaart). If you have a CD, feel free to send me a copy. If you are playing in town let me know. I'd love to come out to hear you.

Q: What are the days and times of the shows?
Our standard shows are on Saturdays and start promptly at 5:00 P.M. Please come early to set up so that you start on time. I ask that you play for at least an hour but you are welcome to play longer if you wish.

Q: What's your audience typically like?
Our shows are family friendly. It is common for parents to bring their children and/or teens. Because of this, we ask that you refrain from profanity or vulgarities. If you can't do this then this is not the venue for you.

If we agree that you will perform here:
* email me crisp, clear, high-quality downloadable pictures that are attractive and interesting so I can include them in newsletters, web site, and any other promotional material.
* send me a brief bio or artist description that I can easily transfer to press releases and our own promotional materials. If you have received positive music reviews, please send me the links.
* do your part in promoting the event whether it's listing us on your myspace or web site or sending a special invite to your friends.
* come visit the space if you haven't already to get a feel for it. You can set up as early as you like the day of the show.
